Traditionally, basket pipes are considered factory seconds in that they didn't make the grade for regular production - i.e., they may have minor pits or flaws in the briar.  However, these pipes are still quality briar pipes that can provide the same smoking enjoyment as standard production pipes at a fraction of the cost.
